Falls Prevention & Better Balance

Staying Confident on your feet
We often take balance for granted until we feel a little "wobbly." Whether it’s a trip on a rug or a momentary dizzy spell, a loss of confidence in your balance can make your world feel smaller.

Balance is a complex skill involving muscle strength, joint mobility, vision, and the inner ear (vestibular system). As we age, or with certain health conditions, these systems can become less efficient - leading to increased falls risk, reduced mobility, and decreased confidence.

At Your Health Your Way, we believe that staying upright is a skill you can sharpen. Our mobile physiotherapists brings the gym (and the expertise) to your living room, focusing on making you feel strong, stable and confident on your feet.

Building a Solid Foundation

We don’t just give you a list of exercises; we look at the whole picture of why you might be feeling off-balance.

  • Balance Assessments: We use evidence-based clinical tools to measure your stability, mobility and falls risk, identifying exactly where the support is needed.

  • Home Safety Check: Your home environment plays a key role in falls prevention. We will walk through your home with you to spot trip hazards, like that one loose rug or the dimly lit hallway, and suggest simple practical modifications.

  • Strength & Power: Good balance starts with strong muscles. We focus on improving leg and core strength, so your body has the strength to catch itself if you do slip and reduce the risk of falls.

  • Vestibular & Coordination: Targeted exercises improve how your brain, eyes, and inner ear work together, helping reduce dizziness and improve overall balance control.

How We Make a Difference

Physiotherapy plays a vital role in falls prevention, balance training, and mobility improvement, particularly for older adults or those experiencing dizziness, weakness, or reduced confidence.

Our goal is to turn "I’m worried about falling" into "I’m confident about walking."

  • Reaction & Balance Training: We practice how to step safely and quickly to regain balance if trip or lose your footing.

  • Mobility Aid Optimisation: If you use a stick or walker, we ensure it is fitted correctly to your height and that you’re using it to help your walking, not hinder it.

  • Confidence Building: Fear of falling can be just as limiting as a physical injury. We create a supportive environment where we can safely challenge your balance and rebuild confidence.

We know that practicing balance can feel a bit daunting. That is why we do it where you’re most comfortable, at home. Our therapists bring guidance and encouragement (and the occasional bad joke) to keep sessions light-hearted, while still challenging you to improve your balance.
